Let's pretend that this was artistically spilled for this picture, and not that that's what spilled over when I was transferring the taco seasoning to the smaller jar... haha... |
So since my original taco spice mix required chili powder, I've decided to share another recipe, this time without any chili powder, and in addition to that, it's without onion powder, which is hard to get locally, and always clumps up. (If you're wondering why there's sweetener, its to replace the sweetness that generally comes from the onion powder. Feel free to leave that out if you want.)
Use this on taco meat, lentils, chicken, veggies, you take your pick. It's terrific.
I made this pretty non spicy so that my kids will eat it. If you like spicier food, increase the amount of hot pepper flakes.
Easy Homemade Taco Seasoning and Spice Mix Recipe
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons paprika
3/4 teaspoons garlic powder/granules
1/8 teaspoon hot pepper flakes
1 tablespoon cumin
1 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon granulated sweetener of choice
1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
1. Mix all these together.
2. For a more uniform taste and texture, feel free to run it through a spice grinder. I didn't bother.
Enjoy!
Are you a fan of Mexican and Tex Mex? Do you buy taco seasoning or make it or just not use it? Does this look like a recipe you'd try?
