This post on Senior Centers by Nancy Evans make the golden years sound so fun!
Growing old shouldn't be something to dread, but instead, it should be a time that you look forward to. When you retire, you will have so much more free time to do the things that you want to do. You'll have even more time if you have a plan before you retire. Have different options for your homes as there are many options such as memory care homes, assisted living facilities, and senior centers. The kids are out of the house, and now you have so much free time on your hands to pick up a new hobby or to continue an old favorite. You could even start doing things on your bucket list. If you haven't started one yet, create one and start doing those "crazy" fun things that you never had the time to do because of work or other obligations.
Even if you no longer live on your own, but instead live at a senior living center such as Pegasus Senior Living, you will be able to do the things that you love to do. You may even discover new things that you would like to try. You will be able to meet new people and to make friends. You will also have companions to play games with and to learn new skills from without the worry of remembering to take your medicine or falling when you are all alone.
Of course, the aging process does tend to slow the body down somewhat, but it is really important to continue to keep the brain sharp and to keep the body moving. By doing these things, you can actually age more healthy, and you will also have the energy to do the things that you want to do. You can keep your brain sharp by getting daily exercise, stimulating your brain, and eating a healthy diet. It is important to read books, do crossword puzzles, and to socialize. Play board games and avoid smoking or drinking.
Residing in a senior center is still going to let you have all of your freedoms that you normally enjoy. You will have the care of a nurse on call and you won't have to worry about all of the things that you need to do to keep your home going, such as mowing the lawn or other tasks that you need to do. You also won't have to worry about someone breaking into your home or having to go to the grocery store to get groceries. Everything is done for you, including meals and housekeeping. You can just enjoy your Golden Years to the fullest. Many senior centers will provide transportation so that you can go to your favorite hairdresser or to your favorite bakery without having to drive, walk, or take the bus.
The Golden Years have often been deemed the best years of your life and for a good reason. It is a time that you have permission to do as you please and at a slower pace. You don't have to rush or get to any place in particular at a certain time. You actually have time to breathe. The best part is that if you live at a senior's center, you don't have to waste your time keeping your home clean or doing mundane chores. You can just sit back and relax while you work on that new hobby. Maybe you want to finally catch up on that scrapbooking project that you never had the time to finish, or maybe you would like to pick up photography to get better at journaling.
Senior centers often have potlucks and dances as well as many other social events to keep things fun, and they also make day trips and arrange other excursions to interesting places to visit. Senior centers have gotten a bad rap, and often people picture elderly people in wheelchairs in front of the TV. That couldn't be further from the truth. They are a good place to make new friends and to have fun while still letting the residents keep their freedom to come and go and to do the things that they normally like to do. They are a place that can be called home and where the residents will be safe. Many also offer daily fitness classes and even host tutorials and classes on how to do different skills to make every day enjoyable for their residents.
