I have been making sticky honey garlic chicken wings for years already, but I never actually followed a recipe and just winged it every time. It has to be up there among my favorite ways to eat chicken wings, if not my absolute favorite. After yet again deciding to make it and people asking me how I did it, I decided to finally write down my recipe.
It's pretty flexible, you can use whatever sweeteners you have available. This time I used a mix of honey and white sugar because that's what I had in the house (I only had half a cup) but you can use all honey, half honey half coconut sugar, half jaggery syrup half white sugar, all brown sugar, all coconut sugar, etc. Basically, don't use all white sugar, because you want something that gives it a richer flavor, whether a brown sugar/sweetener or honey, but you can cut those down with white sugar to keep it cheaper.
This recipe makes a lot of wings, enough for my family for two meals, or to feed a nice sized crowd; feel free to split this in half to serve a smaller crowd.
I love how frugal this recipe is; even using honey, the costs are still pretty low because wings are just about the cheapest meat out there, but if you use sweeteners like jaggery syrup its even cheaper.
Sweet and Sticky Honey Garlic Chicken Wings Recipe -- Gluten Free and Easy, Paleo Option
Ingredients:1 cup total sweetener of choice, honey, coconut sugar, brown sugar, jaggery syrup, white sugar, or a mix, with no more than half be white sugar
1/4 cup gluten free soy sauce or coconut aminos
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ginger powder
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon hot pepper flakes (optional)
Approximately 3 kilos or 6 pounds chicken wings
Scallions (optional)
Instructions:
1. Mix sweetener with soy sauce/coconut aminos, salt, ginger powder, garlic powder, and hot pepper flakes. Coat chicken wings with them, uniformly covering them.
2. Put your wings in 2 9x13 baking pans, making sure to divide the sauce evenly between the pans.
3. Place in the oven at 425 degrees and bake for 30 minutes.
4. Flip over the wings so the other side gets coated in sauce and bake for 20 minutes more.
5. Remove the wings from the pan and placed them on a lined oven tray, making sure they don't overlap each other.
6. Bake for 10 more minutes.
7. If desired, take sauce from the wings and reduce in a pan on the stove top to serve as a dipping sauce.
8. Garnish with sliced scallions if desired.
Enjoy!

This looks delicious, although I'll probably use it on something non-wing. Yum.
ReplyDeleteI found your blog looking for fonadant recipes without marshmallows, glucose, or corn syrup (Duh - simple syrup is a clear replacement!) and was so impressed by all your experience and experimentation. I decided to check out your site now and am so excited to try your wings. I love eating wings out but rarely (if ever?) make them. This is about to become a regular at my residence! Thank you for the inspiration!
