Frugal Accomplishments This Week

Howdy! I know, a little belated- I was out yesterday, so didn’t have the change to get this up… Here’s where I share frugality in action.

So, here’s what we did to save money in our household this past week:

Frugal In The Kitchen:
Made lentil “meat sauce” to eat over rice.
Turned leftover rice and mashed rice cakes into porridge.
Made date nut rolls.
Butchered 3 whole chickens.
Made a chilled cantaloupe soup from cantaloupes that weren’t so delicious plain.
Used a watermelon that I got free, whose texture wasn’t great, to make a chilled watermelon gazpacho.
Made homemade gluten free pizza pies.
Cooking From Scratch:
Made homemade ketchup.
Rendered chicken fat.
Made homemade mayo.
Made homemade almond/cashew milk (after discovering that cashew milk was a relatively frugal choice) and then used the leftover pulp to make cookies.

Free Things:
Got a water cooler from neighbors who were about to toss it, aka dumpster diving before it hit the dumpster.
Dumpster dove a bunch of girls clothes for Anneliese, and some clothes for me as well.
Got a package of rice paper from a friend who bought some and didn’t like them.
Got a bunch of chicken scraps free from the butcher.

Frugal Shopping:
Ordered some things from Vitacost, after price comparing with iherb to see where the best deals were, once shipping was factored in.
Stocked up on turkey gizzards at a very low price, since it is the cheapest meat option out there.

Foraging:
Foraged olive leaves for tea
