I was in Las Vegas once for just a day. I didn't do anything there other than eat out at a restaurant and go grocery shopping and meet some locals for dinner. It was just our last stop on our family trip to the Grand Canyon as well as Bryce Canyon and Hoover Dam when I was a teen. I never even got to see the famous strip. Because of this, Las Vegas is on my bucket list to travel to once again, this time as an adult. One day, maybe. But if you're traveling to Vegas with kids, here are some ideas for kid friendly things to do with them, submitted by a reader.
1. Bellagio Conservatory
The Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is a 14,000 square foot garden where the ambience is created in tune with the season. During redesigning, all plants in the conservatory are recycled. As such, it helps the kids to realize the importance of conserving nature and supporting the environment. The flower arrangements change according to the seasons. For example in spring the place is filled with Cherry blossom, while during summer the foliage is splashed all over with brown and gold. There is a special look in winter too. The rearrangements start from the Chinese New Year. There are 120 gardeners who are experts in their job and put in their effort to make it as attractive as possible.
2. Shows
There are many shows that your older kids might really enjoy. For example, at the Mirage Hotel one can see the Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil. If the kids love music, this one is definitely going to make them smile. In theLas Vegas strip there is an old school casino, called Caesar's Place, which is still functioning. In the afternoons between 1 PM and 3 PM, there is a comedian and magic show - The Mac King Show. This is a great place where the kids can really enjoy. There's also the David Copperfield magic show.
3. Madame Tussauds Las Vegas
The Madame Tussauds wax museum in London is famous worldwide. A similar place of the same name has been opened in Las Vegas. Here the kids get to learn how the wax figures are made which look exactly like the model, which they represent. The museum decides whose figure they want to make and display. The basic structure of these figures are made from steel and clay. The museum collects over 200 photographs of the subject of the wax figure they intend to create in different profiles. The wax finish is done on the basic structure. The final touch is given with paints that exactly match the skin color. If the kids are of a creative sort they will surely love to be there.
4. Amusement Park Activities
In Las Vegas there are a large number of amusement parks with circuses. The Circus Circus combines circus acts with amusement activities. There is also the Big Apple Roller Coaster and Arcade which keeps kids busy for a long time. The Roller Coaster is the world’s first one to have a 180 degree twist and drive, which is really thrilling.
