New “Scratch and Dent Store”

I made a new discovery the other day that made me really excited. I used to visit scratch and dent stores a lot, stores that had banged up cans and and boxes for a fraction of the price that regular stores would have them, but I haven’t shopped at one of them in a while, since there isn’t good parking near them, and I don’t shop with a cart full of groceries like I used to do in the past, way before I had a car. So for the most part, I haven’t been able to avail myself of these stores with good prices.

The other day I decided to visit a pharmacy like store right near my house- it has everything a pharmacy does other than the actual medicine- and it has terrific prices for things like razor blades, makeup, etc…

And as I went to the checkout counter I was surprised to see a shelf full of tuna cans. And then I looked further down and saw they also had corn and mushrooms. And the prices were astoundingly cheap.

The cheaper tuna usually is sold for $5.42 for a package of 4, working out to $1.36 a can. I can sometimes find it on sale for $4.29 for a 4 pack, or $1.07, and that’s when I stock up. These cans of tuna were being sold for 4 for $2.86, or $0.71 cents a can, essentially half their usual price. Not only that, some of the cans were tuna in olive oil, which are generally sold for significantly more than $1.36 a can, though I’m not finding the exact price now. My kids go through a lot of tuna, so finding it on sale at such a price was so amazing, so I bought a whole lot, 16 cans in total. I would have bought more but I felt guilty buying so much and not leaving for other people.

In addition to the tuna, they had canned corn, 3 for $2.86 or $0.95 per can. Canned corn usually costs $1.65 per can, so I bought 6 cans, since one of my kids really likes canned corn, and usually takes it for her lunch for school (together with tuna, cottage cheese, and veggies).

Lastly, they had canned mushrooms, also 3 for $2.86 or $0.95 per can. Canned mushrooms usually are also $1.65 per can on average, so I bought 6 cans of these as well.

It would have been nice if they had more variety at this store, more cheap groceries as well, but I’m not going to complain. The three foods they had on sale are 3 things I anyhow buy and they were significantly cheaper than how much I usually pay for them, it’s in a convenient location, and it’s a place I can go regularly to check out what they have in stock.

I just wanted to share how excited I was to have found this place.

Do you have any scratch and dent stores near you? How often do you shop there? Got any good deals lately?
