I’m really excited. I’m just a little over 12 hours I am flying to Greece. To the island of Rhodes.
This is 7 years to the day, literally, from the last time I was in Greece. Then I visited my friend Vera on the island of Crete.
This time, I’m going to the next island over…
And I’m going with a friend.
In the past year I’ve been on quite a few trips.
My most recent trip was with my youngest, Rose, to London, Sweden, and Norway back in March.
In December I went to Romania with my older daughter, Anneliese.
In November I went to Italy with all my kids and my eldest son’s girlfriend.
And in October I went on a trip alone to Bulgaria.
While I did lots of traveling, when traveling with children it isn’t a vacation, because you’re still parenting. It is a great amount of fun and it is why I do and did it, and recommend traveling with your children to people if they can afford it, but it isn’t a vacation.
My trip in October was a vacation.
But I realized something then.
I wasn’t sure I wanted to travel alone anymore. After my first part of my trip where I stayed at a hostel that was so family like, the second half of the trip just felt lonely, and I felt the absense of people.
I wanted to try traveling with a friend.
And so, this trip to Rhodes is my first time traveling abroad with a friend.
I’ve traveled to visit friends before.
When I was in Sweden I met up with my close friend who was also there and we did stuff together for a day.
But I’ve never planned a trip for two before taking into account other people’s likes and dislikes, so that will be an interesting change.
My friend that I’m traveling with is really into ATV riding and nature and not a museum person. That’s ok with me; I’ve seen a lot of Greek artifacts already in many places, I don’t need to go to museums to see more of them. And Rhodes is a really ATV friendly island, small, and with all the roads ATV accessible (unlike other places where ATVs aren’t allowed on some roads such as highways). So we booked an ATV for the duration of our trip instead of a rental car, and the majority of our adventuring will be via ATV, other than some walking around two different cities and a planned hike. I used ChatGPT to help figure out our itinerary, making sure to add snorkeling spots to the list.
Because we’re traveling via ATV, I made sure to get luggage straps to be able to secure our backpacks and suitcase in place on the ATV.
And now… it’s time for me to head to bed, because I have to get up on time in the morning to make it to the airport!
I’m really excited!
I can’t wait to share more with you about this trip!
Have you ever been to Rhodes? What are your must sees that I have to make sure not to miss?
